UNIT 2 - Introduction to Cultural Competence - Practical Skills (U2_ICC19)

Description

Introduction to Cultural Competence Unit 2: Practical Skills lets you practice the skills you need to work effectively with migrants and refugees. It has practical activities on how you can reduce unconscious bias, use plain language and check your clients understand what you’re saying. You will also identify your own cultural preferences for communication so you’re not bothered when clients don’t do things the way you’re used to.

Unit 2: Practical Skills takes about 45 minutes and is the perfect add-on to Unit 1 for staff who work in-depth with migrant and refugee clients.

Learning Goals:
After completing Unit 2, you will have practiced:
- Writing in plain language
- Strategies for checking what clients understand from what you say
- Identifying your biases and learned thinking patterns to reduce their impact
- Strategies for working with clients from other cultures

You can get started immediately and complete the suite at your own pace. Your progress is saved automatically, so you can log out then resume at any time.
